Happy Anniversary

Today was our 17th wedding anniversary. Michael took me to a really nice restaurant called "The Bay Leaf" in Allentown. After dinner, we played mini-golf with some friends. A fun night. Did not get much sewing done today, just some piecing.

Happy Birthday Karl!

Karl turns 11 today! This year he requested spaghetti pie for dinner and carrot cake for his special birthday meal. Mommy made him a Tropical Carrot Cake with Coconut Cream Frosting. Way to many calories, but very good.

Lanterns

I finished piecing my lanterns quilt top today. Now I just have to layer it and quilt it. It helped lift my spirits using the bright colors and I added the butterflies thinking about Mom and that her spirit is now free.

Not at all quilting related!

But this made me giggle! It is from a catalog called catalog favorites that I got in the mail. I am starting collect these little ditties to make me laugh when I need a lift!

My Sewing Fortress

I have been trying to come up with a sewing space that works well for me. Last night my husband got me this Galant desk from IKEA. You can configure the parts in numerous ways. We got a little round to put on the one side, that gives me an area to layout block pieces that will be sewn together. The great thing is the legs are adjustable height so i can have it just so!

Kendo

Karl came home today with "Kendo". It was a project from his 5th grade art class. Really neat!

Lanterns

Mom's funeral was on Saturday. I find myself very tearful and sad most of the day. I was doing some hand-quilting on a mini wholecoth quilt during the past week. Yesterday, I had the urge to piece something again. This month, Pat Sloan issued a color challenge in her newsletter. She wanted you to pick a color combo and make some lantern blocks - I chose to use pink, green, yellow, orange, and a bit of red to try and lift my spirits. My Nanny used to string little different types of lantern lights between the big trees at her house in the summer months. My youngest drew me a picture of a bird today to help cheer me up.
