The Butterfly

Image
Michael and I watched this French film last night.  The actor who played the grumpy old man was perfect in his role.  The story reminded us of the Czech film Kolya.

Still digesting...

Image
Wow, that was way too much food yesterday.  And we still had MORE today!  It was a low key day, no black friday shopping for us.  We had a nice walk and then Michael and I started another puzzle today... this is the scene: and this is the puzzle we completed last weekend.  I need to travel more!

Our Thanksgiving Day

Image
Karl did a wonderful job setting the table for Thanksgiving - he practiced proper setting in his family consumer science class (home economics to our generation). Soup first... then the feast... Oh, and while I was cooking the dinner, I found a bee sticker on my lemon!  Too funny.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Our Dinner Menu at the Velik House : Wild Mushroom Soup with Madeira Honey Brined Turkey with Giblet Cream Gravy Bread Dumplings Green Beans Corn Cranberry Sauce Applesauce Three Nut Pie Sweet & Spicy Pumpkin Pie Cherry-Apple Pie  Wine! MMMMMMMM!!!

Thanksgiving Pie #3

Image
Last pie is out of oven.  This is an apple cherry pie - Karl wanted apple, Thomas wanted cherry, so we comprised.  Sadly, the cherries are kind of bland since it's not their season, but Thomas really wanted cherries in a pie this year!  It definitely is not my mile high apple pie.  We might make that for Mike's birthday.  I just got done making the turkey brine.  Tomorrow am I will be making the dumplings, mushroom soup (not sure if i will eat this one, it was something Mike wanted.  I found a recipe using button mushrooms and dried morels), and getting the turkey roasting!

Two New Blocks

Image
Just wait until my friend Karen see these!!!  We keep collecting civil war fabrics, but we never seem to get together to sew a quilt top together!

Oh Baby It's Cold Outside

Image
I was busy making pies and noticed we have a little visitor in the Park today.  He has got to be cold!

Thanksgiving Pie # 2

Image
Yummy!  Pie # 2 is a three-nut pie with almonds, hazelnuts, and pecans...

Thanksgiving Pie # 1

Sweet and Spicy Pumpkin Pie from Fine Cooking magazine recipe, smells delicious!

Annapolis, Maryland

Some pictures from our road trip:

AJ in "Crazy For You"

Image
Andy played Everett in the senior high school play.  He sang, danced, and acted very well!  We were very proud of him!!  Who knew he could waltz???

Puzzle

Image
We got a puzzle to do with the boys.  Thomas said it would teach him patience, but then Mike finished the puzzle over one night!!  It was shot in County Cork, I would love to visit there some day.  I love all the colors!

Final Bloom

Image
These flowers were all blooming at my house until last week, when the cold air and frost set in.  It is sad to see them go... and the boys' pumpkins started to rot in the wet weather.

The chocolate fairy

Image
The chocolate fairy left 2 candy bars under my pillow.  One was a Goji Bar.  It has goji berries, pink himalayan salt, and deep milk chocolate.  It was a unique taste!

I have been busy....

I went to Maryland with friends on the weekend and we visited 2 quilt shops.  One in Savage and one in Annapolis.  Added stuff to my stash - yikes!!  We saw a neat ship in Annapolis harbor.  I will hopefully post the picture tomorrow.

Boil and Toil

Image
Back in the kitchen this am!  Andrew asked me to make split pea soup - that is bubbling away. Michael said last night he was hungry for soup and cornbread muffins (they are in the oven).  I have some whole milk yogurt incubating.   The second load of laundry is calling me.  I am glad I got my walk to the state store in early this morning! Hopefully, I can sew this afternoon before it's time to cook dinner!

Wine

Image
Today I got some wine for Thanksgiving.  We previously tried a Fat Bastard Merlot - that was interesting. Today I purchased a Rosemount Traminer Riesling and a Royal Bitch Shiraz!  Now if you had Fat Bastard, Royal Bitch, and Blue Nun all at the same dinner, that would be a party!

College News for Andrew

AJ is getting responses from various colleges.  This week he was accepted at Kutztown U, Albright, and he had a preliminary interview for the Naval Academy.  It is a very exciting time for him!

Binding Blitz....

My Quilting Fairy finished two more of my quilts.  That lead to a binding blitz in the hive tonight.  I pieced and attached 3 bindings, so now I have to hand tack them all down!

Fabrics!

Image
This is a nice 108" backing I picked up for my Box of Chocolates quilt!  I did not want to have to piece a large backing! This is a black ant on white print for a project I have in the works: And this was a Judy Rothermel Classic Conversations print I found for my stash:

I got some new fabrics today!

Image
These are the ones I could find swatches for!  I got mostly FQ or long quarters for my stash.  There were some others on clearance at 1.00 a FQ, but I could not tell you the name of the fabric line!
